Press Release - Technology helps drivers avoid speeding tickets

Montreal, June 4, 2006 -- Many drivers who are caught speeding claim that the government’s main incentive for setting up speed traps is the generated revenue. Most people who are caught are not “high risk dangerous drivers” but average drivers who might just have been somewhat unobservant.

According to a survey conducted by Roadragers.com in 2004 most Canadians follow the traffic flow and don’t exceed the speed limit.

• I think that it is important to drive to the speed of the traffic – 71%

• I don't exceed the speed limit – 59%

• I normally drive the speed of the traffic as long as it is moving sufficiently – 45%

• I drive the speed of the traffic – 47%

• Slow drivers don't bother me, I just go around them – 68%

(Source: Road Rage and Driving Habits Statistics, 2004)

Even though government and police claim that their only motivation for speed traps is safer roads, the statistics indicate something else. The number of convicted speeding tickets in Ontario alone increased by 159 % from 1996 till 2003 (Source: Ontario Road Safety Annual Report 1996, 1999 and 2003).

Speed trap alerts to mobile phones have been available in numerous European countries for more than five years; we think it’s time that people in Ontario and Québec get access to similar solutions.

J R Wireless Inc., a Montreal based company, has partnered with a leading European speed trap alerts technology provider, and we are proud to be able to offer our service in Canada. On June 7 we are launching our speed trap alerts service in Ontario and Québec.

Anyone with a mobile phone can take advantage of our service, no software or application is required – it is all done using text messages. There is no membership fee, just a pay per received text message, and you can sign ON and OFF at any time or place by simply sending a keyword to our Short Code.

There are other companies that help drivers fight speeding tickets. J R Wireless Inc. does much more – we help preventing our customers ever getting one! We deliver peace of mind when on the road.
